Four days, a 7:30 a.m. gate and an 8 a.m. first ring

The Rose City Classic runs Thursday, Jan. 21 to Sunday, Jan. 24, 2027 at the Portland Expo Center. The venue card places the show in Halls ABCDE and states that judging begins daily at 8 a.m.

The organiser spectator page adds the gate time. The Portland Expo Center opens to the public at 7:30 a.m. each day. Official show hours run 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and variety group and Best-in-Show judging sometimes run later.

A spectator who wants the first ring at 8 a.m. joins the queue at 7:30 a.m. The organisers publish no closing hour beyond 6 p.m. for the last ring.

The 2027 price ladder is still unpublished

The organiser's spectator page still carries the 2026 dates and the 2026 prices. The venue card carries an older record, dated Jan. 16 to 19, 2025, with the same ladder printed underneath it.

That ladder lists $15 per person, $30 for a family of up to five, $25 for a two-day individual pass and $40 for a two-day family pass. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Seniors 62 and over enter free on Thursday and Friday, and pay full price on Saturday and Sunday.

Read those figures as the last published ladder. The exhibitor page reads that the 2027 show documents will appear soon, and the spectator page asks readers to check back around Jan. 8 for the judging programmes.

No 2027 admission price appears on the organiser pages or on the venue card.

Scent Work and Meet-the-Breeds run Friday to Sunday

The spectator page puts conformation, obedience, Rally and agility on all four days. Trick Dogs and Canine Good Citizen testing appear on Thursday and Friday in one line of that page and on Saturday and Sunday in another.

Scent Work trials run Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Meet-the-Breeds runs the same three days. The general information page puts more than 70 breeds and their breeders at the showcase.

More than 180 AKC breeds compete in conformation for championships, Best of Breed and Best in Show. The student art contest runs for students in grades 1 to 12, and has run since 1997.

The organisers name Friday through Sunday as the best days for spectators, because that stretch carries the largest number of dogs.

The headquarters hotel is a member of this directory

The organiser names the Holiday Inn Portland Columbia Riverfront, formerly the Red Lion Hotel on the River, as its headquarters hotel. It sits at 909 N Hayden Island Dr, Portland, OR 97217, and the room block runs through 503-283-4466.

That address appears in the hotelSlots Portland directory, which lists 278 hotels for the city. The directory card reads 909 North Hayden Island Drive.

The property carries no day rate among the 19 cards on the Dayuse Portland shelf read on Oct. 20, 2026. A reader who wants a priced day block looks at another property on the same island.

The window that covers the last ring

Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Portland - Jantzen Beach sits 2.6 driving miles from the Expo Center, an OSRM estimate of about six minutes. It is the only card on the Dayuse Portland shelf in the Hayden Island neighbourhood.

Dayuse lists it at $96 against a $130 nightly comparison, a 27 percent reduction. The three published windows read 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The evening block runs past a 6 p.m. close. The morning block covers the 7:30 a.m. gate and the first hours of judging.

Portland International Airport sits 9.9 driving miles from Jantzen Beach, about 23 minutes.

Parking, and the two numbers the pages disagree on

The organiser spectator page states that the Expo Center charges $13 for parking. The Expo Center parking page states that parking is typically $15 per car per entry, that prices may vary with demand, and that the lots take cash and major credit cards.

Reserved parking runs through the show's parking office. Reservations close Jan. 6, 2027, with no refunds after that date. Once the series begins a driver arranges parking in person at the show. Checks go to the Dog Fanciers Association of Oregon.

The organiser states that reserved parking details will appear in the premium list when it publishes in mid to late November.

Light rail runs to the site. The spectator page states that the train delivers riders into the Expo Center parking lot. The venue page names Expo Center station on the MAX Yellow Line, with bike racks next to the stop.

Book the day, then the room

The show opens at 7:30 a.m. and judging starts at 8. A spectator who wants the Thursday specialties and a weekend all-breed day books two days, and the $25 two-day pass or the $40 family two-day pass is the published route to that.

hotelSlots states that day rates typically run 30 to 75 percent below the nightly rate, that it sells a day as four slots beginning at 6 a.m., 12 p.m., 6 p.m. and 12 a.m., and that it charges no booking fees with payment made to the hotel.

The 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. window covers the middle of a judging day. The 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. window covers the last ring, a shower and a late departure from PDX.
