A ten-day festival whose daytime half runs through schools
The 2027 Biamp Portland Jazz Festival takes the city from March 4 to March 13. PDX Jazz announced the first wave on October 11 and describes more than 25 ticketed performances across the city. The Friday headline is Emmylou Harris with the Daniel Lanois Trio at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. The festival closes Saturday, March 13 with Larry Carlton at the Aladdin Theater.
The ticketed layer lands at night. The daytime layer is education, and PDX Jazz runs it as three separate programmes: Jazz in the Schools, The American Refrain, and a workshop strand that includes Behind the Boards beat-making sessions. A downtown property pricing a day room against this festival is pricing it against those three.
Jazz in the Schools puts the work in a classroom
Jazz in the Schools is a K-12 programme. It introduces students to the contributors to the music and connects jazz to visual art, with each student producing an original album cover. Selected work is exhibited at a community event each year, at locations that have included the Portland Art Museum and Peninsula Park Community Center.
The American Refrain: Jazz and Modern Music is the in-school performance. PDX Jazz describes it as an hour-long programme with narration, delivered live in schools across the Portland area, and built on four themes: building community, storytelling, fighting for social justice, and improvisation.
The third leg is the workshop strand. PDX Jazz lists Jazz Conversations, Behind the Boards beat-making workshops and performance masterclasses together.
PDX Jazz states that this outreach is free to schools and weighted toward Title 1A-funded schools. Nothing in that arrangement recovers a room cost, which is where a day-use rate becomes relevant to the people running the sessions.
The 2027 daytime schedule is unpublished
The announcement ends with a line promising additional artist announcements and educational programming in the coming months. The lineup page names the artists and prints no per-show time.
A property quoting a rate against a school session in March has no festival clock to quote against. The session time comes from the school or from PDX Jazz at booking.
One evening clock is published, and it sets the shape of the day
Emmylou Harris with the Daniel Lanois Trio plays Friday, March 5, 2027 at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1037 SW Broadway. The venue listing gives an 8 p.m. start, doors at 7 p.m., tickets from $81.64 with all fees included, reserved seating, and a limit of eight tickets per purchase.
A classroom in the afternoon, a door at 7 p.m., a curtain at 8 p.m.
The afternoon slot ends an hour before the door
hotelSlots sells four slots: Morning 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., Afternoon 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Evening 6 p.m. to 12 a.m., and Overnight 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. The platform publishes day-use rates up to 75 percent below the nightly rate at the same hotel, with no fee charged by the platform and payment made at the property. Its day-use landing page quotes a narrower band, 40 to 60 percent below overnight, and lists pool, gym, wi-fi and shower access as included.
The Afternoon slot ends at 6 p.m. The Schnitzer door opens at 7 p.m. That hour is the number to hold when a guest asks whether the afternoon rate leaves time to eat.

The partner list prices the night
PDX Jazz publishes eleven hotel partners on its travel page, eight of them with an offer attached. AC Hotel, The Benson, The Duniway, Hilton Portland Downtown, Hotel Vance, The Hoxton, the Hyatt Regency at the Oregon Convention Center, Inn at Northrup Station, Jupiter NEXT, Mark Spencer and The Nines are all on it. Hotel Vance offers 20 percent off with the code S2514. The Hoxton offers 20 percent off with SHINDIG. Mark Spencer offers 20 percent off with JAZZ. Inn at Northrup Station offers 15 percent off with PDXJAZZ.
No partner offer covers a day slot. A guest who wants the room for the afternoon and leaves before the show is not served by the partner codes.
Order of operations
Take the session time from the school first, because no 2027 daytime grid exists. Take the curtain time from the venue listing second, because the 8 p.m. anchor for March 5 is published and the rest of the run is not. Then choose the card by window, and confirm the window with the property before the slot is quoted.
