Seven hours, twice, in Halls C-D-E

The Oddities & Curiosities Expo runs 7 and 8 November at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland. The venue card names Halls C-D-E and lists it as a ticketed public event. The organiser publishes the same window for both days: Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

That is seven hours a day on the floor. The organiser's schedule page reads 40 cities across the US, Canada and Australia, and places Portland between Seattle on 24 and 25 October and Sacramento on 14 and 15 November.

The bag stays in the room for seven hours

A guest who checks in before the 10 a.m. open does not see that room again until 5 p.m. Seven hours of paid inventory sits behind a locked door.

Two levers close the gap. A late checkout pushes the departure past 5 p.m. A day slot sells the room as its own product with its own clock, usually at a fraction of the overnight rate, and the listing quotes the window.

Day rates on the Portland city page of the day-use platform, read at 21:35 UTC on 18 October 2026, in straight-line miles from the 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd address point: Jupiter Original 0.43 miles at $89 against $150, 41 percent lower, on 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.; Jupiter Next 0.44 miles at $123 against $209, 42 percent lower, on 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Embassy Suites by Hilton Portland Downtown 0.65 miles at $131 against $228, 43 percent lower, on 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Staypineapple Hotel Rose 0.85 miles at $112 against $450, 76 percent lower, on 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Royal Sonesta Portland Downtown 0.86 miles at $110 against $173, 37 percent lower, with five windows including 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Three of those windows bracket the full show day. Embassy Suites runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Staypineapple runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Royal Sonesta runs 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., which covers the walk back after a late exit. Jupiter Original and Jupiter Next both stop at 4 p.m., an hour before the floor closes, so a guest booking either one needs a plan for that last hour.

Cash at the door, cards at the till

The venue is cashless. The Oregon Convention Center accepts credit and debit cards and touchless payment only, across its cafes, restaurants and parking garage. Five ATMs sit in the pre-function lobbies and on the south Ginkoberry Concourse. A reverse ATM in the MLK Lobby, down the short hallway to the left of the welcome desk, loads $1 to $500 onto a Visa card with no fee, and the card cannot be reloaded.

The organiser reads differently. Its FAQ states that cash and credit are both accepted at the door, that day-of tickets are $20, and that the large majority of vendors take both, with signs on the tables that take cash only.

The split matters on arrival. The door and the vendor tables take cash. The building does not. A guest who brings cash converts it at the reverse ATM and uses the card for coffee, parking and anything else the venue sells.

One bag search, not two

The organiser stamps hands for re-entry and searches bags each time a guest comes back through the door. A room changes that count. The bag stays put, the guest walks back in with a phone and a wallet, and one search covers the whole day. LocketGo lockers in three lobbies, reservable by phone and card, do the same job for a guest without a room.

Children 12 and under enter free and need no ticket. A ticket is valid on either day but not on both, so a two-day guest buys twice, and tickets are nonrefundable. Food and drink concessions run inside the hall.

What a ticket and a room cost together

A day-of ticket is $20. Pair it with the $89 Jupiter Original window and the day costs $109 and stops at 4 p.m.

Another pairing covers the full floor. The $112 Staypineapple window runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the day costs $132.

The night before costs a different number. The rate set published at this venue for November is the CANVAS 2026 block: Hilton Portland Downtown $184, DoubleTree by Hilton Portland $205, Hyatt Regency Portland $235 for 1 to 4 November. That block closed on 12 October.

Parking and the walk

The underground garage holds 800 spaces. Entry costs $15 for up to 18 hours with no in and out privileges, and a dynamic $15 to $25 applies at event entry. The garage opens at 6 a.m., overnight parking is prohibited, and clearance runs 7 feet on P1 and 9 feet on P2. MAX light rail stops 300 times a day near the front door, and the Streetcar A Loop runs every 15 minutes.

Book the window before the door opens

The show day is fixed at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both dates. The room window is not, and each property sets its own clock and inclusions. Match the booking to the day. A guest who wants the floor from open to close needs a window that starts at 10 a.m. or earlier and ends at 5 p.m. or later.

Rates on this market move between reads. The figures above carry the 21:35 UTC stamp of 18 October 2026, and the same city page has quoted different prices for the same property within a single day. Recheck the listing before paying, and confirm the checkout hour on the property page.
