Monster Jam Freestyle Mania starts at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2027 at Moda Center. A family that reaches downtown at 3 p.m. has four hours to the start, three hours to the door and two hours before the parking garages open.

The arena takes the bag, not the gear inside it

Moda Center allows bags up to 14 by 14 by 6 inches at non-basketball events. Bag check sits on the Commons between Dr. Jacks and the Annex Box Office and charges a fee.

The prohibited list removes what a family packs. Laptops, tablets and iPads are barred. Coolers are barred. Outside food and beverage is barred. Umbrellas and hard-sided bags are barred. A 14 by 14 by 6 bag clears screening and still cannot carry the laptop, the cooler or the snacks.

Re-entry closes once you are inside. Whatever stays in the car waits until the show ends. A room settles that. The laptop, the cooler and the change of clothes go into the room, and the family walks to the door with a bag that passes.

Doors, garages and the clock

The venue event page prints the 7:00 p.m. start with its time field marked TBD and no door time. The venue guide carries the working rule. Doors typically open one hour before the start, which puts them at 6 p.m. The parking page carries the second rule. The garages open about two hours before an event, near 5 p.m. The box office opens two hours prior as well.

Three hours at 3 p.m. buys a room. Two hours buys a garage. A family that parks first and waits second spends two hours on a campus with no open lot.

The booking that covers 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

hotelSlots sells four blocks: Morning 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., Afternoon 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Evening 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. and Overnight 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. A booking can combine blocks. The Afternoon block covers a 3 p.m. arrival and runs six hours.

Three of those six hours are the wait. The other three are the part a family uses to change, eat and leave the bags.

Cards inside a mile of the arena

Dayuse lists 19 priced Portland cards on 20 October 2026. Nine sit inside 1.1 miles of Moda Center, measured straight-line from the arena footprint. Rates move between reads, so price the card again on the day.

Royal Sonesta Portland Downtown, 506 SW Washington Street, reads $107 for the day against $170 overnight with a $7 booking fee at 0.95 miles. Its windows include 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. A 6 p.m. check-out leaves 20 minutes on foot and the door at 6:20 p.m.

Embassy Suites by Hilton Portland Downtown, 319 SW Pine Street, reads $145.50 against $193.05 with a $9 fee at 0.74 miles, on a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. window. A 5 p.m. check-out leaves 45 minutes before the door.

The Nines, 525 SW Morrison, reads $159 against $450 with a $10 fee at 1.01 miles, on a 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. window. Jupiter Original, 800 East Burnside Street, is the cheapest card inside 1.1 miles at $89 against $150 with a $6 fee, 0.78 miles out. Its first window ends at 4 p.m. and its second opens at 5 p.m.

A 6 p.m. check-out puts a family on the sidewalk at the door hour. At 20 minutes a mile on foot, a mile of downtown blocks costs 20 minutes. Book the check-out at 5 p.m. or 5:30 p.m.

The rest of the afternoon

Guests may line up on campus from 8 a.m. on event day. Guests over the age of 2 need a ticket, and guests under 16 need an adult with them. The campus is cashless. Reverse ATMs on the 100 Level at A-6 and A-21, on the 300 Level at C33 and in the Box Office Lobby load $1 to $500 onto a card that cannot be reloaded.

Moda Center runs as a sensory inclusive venue. Guest Information Booths lend noise-cancelling headphones, fidget toys and feeling thermometers free against an ID or a credit card, and the building holds a sensory room. Monster trucks are loud. A room 15 to 25 minutes from the door gives a child somewhere quiet to wait before the gates.

Parking runs above 2,500 spaces across four garages and two lots. Garden Garage connects to Moda Center with 1,038 spaces, 24 accessible spaces and 6 feet 8 inches of clearance. East and West together carry 1,087 spaces and 8 feet 2 inches. Pre-paid parking sells through the Rose Quarter parking widget and the Ticketmaster checkout, and the venue recommends buying early because the lots sell out.

Book the Afternoon block at a card inside a mile. Take the 5 p.m. check-out. Leave the cooler, the laptop and the umbrella in the room, and walk to the door at six with a bag the screening line will pass.
