One Fair, One Afternoon, Two Gates
Folsom Street Fair fills SoMa for one afternoon. The organiser page carries the 2026 edition as Sunday, September 27, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Folsom Street calls it the 43rd annual celebration and traces the fair to 1984. Its FAQ states the pattern the organiser keeps: the last Sunday in July for Up Your Alley, the last Sunday in September for this fair, both from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The fairgrounds cover Folsom Street between 7th and 13th Streets, plus 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Streets from Howard to Harrison, and Dore Street from Howard to the end. Gate volunteers ask for a donation. A donation of $10 to $20 returns a fair sticker that discounts drinks at every bar on the grounds. The FAQ bars children under 18 and bars all pets.
What the Gates Already Cover
The accessibility page lists what the donation includes. Seating sits at all community performance stages and at both food courts. Water refill stations stand throughout the fairgrounds. A wellbeing space hosted by Mukunda Studio runs at 1228 Folsom Street. Medical and first aid care is on site, and a public health village at the main entrance offers vaccines and sexual wellness screenings.
Seven community stages carry performers, DJs and live music. The Playground on 10th Street between Howard and Folsom serves women of every kind and all trans and non-binary folk. Food splits into two zones: seven food trucks on 9th Street below Folsom and eight food booths on 12th Street below Folsom. Coat and clothes check is available on site. The fair is smoke-free under city ordinance, so a cigarette means exiting a main gate and re-entering.
The Two Windows a Room Fills
A room adds three things the fairgrounds do not list: a shower, a private place to change in and out of gear, and a locked place for a bag. The gates open at 11 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. That leaves a morning window before the gates and an evening window after them, each under four hours.
hotelslots.org sells day-use rooms in four blocks: Morning 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., Afternoon 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Evening 6 p.m. to 12 a.m., and Overnight 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. A visitor who wants a shower and a change before the gates should price the morning block. A visitor who wants the same after the close should price the evening block.
Morning and Evening Slots to Price
The dayuse.com San Francisco page, read on October 6, 2026, carries these city cards. Hotel Bijou - Union Square reads US$85, down 70 percent from US$275, with 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. windows. The Mosser Hotel card sits in Yerba Buena at US$91, down 70 percent from US$299, with 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. windows. The Mosser description carries both proximity figures on the page: a 5-minute walk to Moscone Convention Center and a 3-minute walk to Powell Street BART.
For the hours after the gates shut, the same page reads Hotel Zelos San Francisco at US$144, down 64 percent from US$399, with 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. among five windows, and Hotel Zetta San Francisco at US$152, down 62 percent from US$399, with 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. among four. The page prints a city average of $119.61 for a day room in San Francisco.
SoMa Addresses to Compare
The hotelslots.org San Francisco directory reads 562 hotels available, its own count for the metro area. Its SoMa and SoMa-edge entries carry street addresses: Canopy by Hilton San Francisco SoMa at 250 4th Street, BEI San Francisco at 50 8th Street, Hampton Inn San Francisco Downtown/Convention Center at 942 Mission Street, Four Seasons at 757 Market Street, City Center Inn & Suites at 240 7th Street, Good Hotel at 112 Seventh Street, Bay Bridge Inn San Francisco at 966 Harrison Street, 1 Hotel San Francisco at 8 Mission Street and Harbor Court Hotel at 165 Steuart Street.
What the Rates and the Rules Say
hotelslots.org publishes two discount bands. Its home page says day-use rates run 30 to 75 percent less than nightly rates. Its day-use rooms page says 40 to 60 percent less than overnight. The platform charges no booking fee and the guest pays the hotel directly.
Two cautions come from its own pages. The day-use rooms page states that pool, gym, Wi-Fi and shower access are included. The short-stay guide states those extras can all vary by property, so confirm the listing. The same guide states that day-use inventory is limited and that the best slots fill first, especially on weekday afternoons. The platform's seller-of-travel page names Florida, Hawaii, Iowa and Washington as the states that restrict day-use bookings under state travel law.
A Base Under Four Hours
For a visitor who reaches SoMa on a fair day, a day-use room covers the hours the fairgrounds cannot. A morning slot covers the shower and the change before an 11 a.m. gate. An evening slot covers both after the 6 p.m. close and leaves the visitor near BART or Muni for the ride out. The FAQ notes that Muni shuts down at night. The travel page sends guests to SpotHero for advance parking. The FAQ lists 14 accessible spaces for this fair, four on Howard at Dore and ten on Harrison at 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th. The accessibility page adds ADA parking on Howard, 7th and Harrison near entrances.
Fair headquarters sits at 1401 Folsom, where the safety team holds turned-in items and the lost and found line runs at 415-552-3247.
