Day Use for a Single Day of Portola

Portola 2026 is a two-day festival, Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27, at Pier 80 in San Francisco. The general info page states that venue doors open at 1 p.m. PT on both days, and the FAQ states the curfew is 11 p.m. PT each day. A single-day pass-holder therefore arrives and leaves inside one afternoon and one evening.

The festival publishes a no-re-entry rule and takes place indoors and outdoors at Pier 80. Both facts decide where a day-use room helps.

One festival day, as published

Doors open at 1 p.m. PT both days. Curfew is 11 p.m. PT. The box office at 900 Marin St opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Entry requires a valid physical government-issued photo ID, and the event is 21 and over. The site states the show runs rain or shine, that Portola is cashless, and that the lineup, set times, festival hours and venue are subject to change.

No re-entry closes the loop. Once the pass is scanned, the visitor stays on site until they leave for the night.

The festival consumes the midday slots

hotelSlots sells day use in four slots: Morning 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., Afternoon 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Evening 6 p.m. to 12 a.m., and Overnight 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. The Afternoon and Evening slots sit inside the festival window in full. Taking either one pays for a room the visitor is not in.

Where the room earns its keep

Two slots sit outside the doors and the curfew. The Morning slot, 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., covers arrival: a shower, a nap and a repack after an early flight, a noon checkout, then the 1 p.m. doors. The Overnight slot, 12 a.m. to 6 a.m., covers the far end: a bed between the 11 p.m. curfew and a dawn flight.

The transit schedule narrows the second case. The free Portola shuttle loops between Pier 80 and 24th St. Mission BART Station from 12:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and Muni keeps Union Square-Market St, Chinatown and Yerba Buena/Moscone stations open until 1 a.m. A visitor with a flight out the same night therefore has a ride past midnight. A room pays only when the flight is early enough that the 1 a.m. window is still too late.

Reaching the pier by transit

Portola publishes no festival parking and states that visitors should not drive to Pier 80. The main entrance is at 900 Marin St, San Francisco, CA 94124. The free shuttle loads at the corner of Valencia St. and 24th St., two blocks west of the 24th St. Mission BART Station, and runs a loop to the pier.

Muni's guidance names the T Third line as the rail route. Board at Union Square/Market St Station toward Sunnydale and get off at Third/Marin, one block from Pier 80. Route 48 Quintara stops at 23rd and Third for a 10-minute walk. Route 19 Polk stops at Connecticut and Cesar Chavez for a 10-minute walk. Route 15 Bayview Hunters Point Express stops at Third and Marin, two blocks out.

For the trip out, Muni directs riders to the T Third at Third St. and 23rd St Station or Third St. and Evans Station. The platform at Third St. and Marin St. is unavailable from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m., and the northbound trains stop at Union Square-Market St Station.

Rooms on the T Third corridor, as published

The San Francisco day-rate page lists day rooms in districts the T Third serves. Hotel Zelos San Francisco, in Yerba Buena, shows US$144 against US$399, 64 percent off, with slots from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Taj Campton Place, in Union Square, shows US$159 against US$340, 54 percent off, with a 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. slot. Axiom Hotel San Francisco, also in Union Square, shows US$122 against US$299, 60 percent off, with slots at 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Hotel Zeppelin San Francisco, in Lower Nob Hill, shows US$138 against US$399, 66 percent off, with slots from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The same page publishes an average day-room price of $119.61 for San Francisco. Those figures are the platform's own, read on October 6, 2026. Day rates move, so recheck the listing before booking.

What to confirm before booking

hotelSlots publishes two discount bands: 30 to 75 percent less than nightly rates on the home page, and 40 to 60 percent less than overnight on the day-use page. It also states that pool, gym, Wi-Fi and shower access are included on one page and that Wi-Fi, a desk, gym access, pool access and parking can all vary by property on another. Confirm inclusions on the specific listing.

The platform charges $0 fees, states it is free to use with no booking fees and no commission markup, and covers 46 states with 103,857+ properties. It names FL, HI, IA and WA as the four states that restrict day-use bookings under state travel laws. California is not among them.

The platform states that one room can host only so many daytime slots in a day and that the best slots at the best properties fill first, especially weekday afternoons and airport-area locations. Portola also offers charging lockers, reserved in advance, so a day bag does not need a room. Single-day passes were priced at $269.95 for Saturday and $299.50 for Sunday and the 2026 allocation is sold out.

A single-day Portola visitor gets value from the morning before the doors or the small hours after the curfew. Everything from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. belongs to the festival.
