The Oregon Burn Center Safety Fair and Chili Cookoff runs Saturday 13 February 2027, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Hall D at the Portland Expo Center, 2025 North Expo Road. The venue lists admission as free. Parking for the day comes compliments of the Oregon Burn Center.
Three hours is the whole event. A day-use room held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. covers the drive in, the three hours in Hall D, a shower and the ride home. The venue page prints 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The organiser page prints Saturday Feb. 13th, 2027, 12pm - 3pm. The two pages agree.
Chili, Judges and a Crowd Vote
Local fire and EMS teams cook and compete. The Expo Center describes the afternoon as teams earning top honors from judges and the crowd. The organiser ties the cookoff to National Burn Awareness Week, which falls in the first full week of February each year, and to the working partnership between first responders and the Oregon Burn Center.
The Oregon Burn Center is the only specialized burn center in the state. It treats patients from across Oregon and a multi-state region. The organiser states that the small number of clinicians trained in burn care makes the link with fire and EMS crews essential to fast treatment and to prevention work. The venue blurb puts a safety fair and family programming alongside the cookoff.
Free at the Door, Paid at the Pot
Admission costs nothing. Tasting costs money. The organiser sells a Tasting Package that samples chili from every team and carries a ballot for the People's Choice Award. A visitor with a smaller appetite buys a few favorites à la carte.
Neither page publishes a price for the package or for the single portions. Read the figure at the door. Free admission covers entry to Hall D and the safety tables inside it.
The Priced Day Room Is on the Island
Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites Portland - Jantzen Beach at 2300 North Hayden Island Drive carries a day room at $96 against a $130 nightly comparison. The card's own discount field reads 31 percent on the Dayuse Portland read of 20 October 2026. The $96 includes a $6 booking fee.
The property sits 0.6 straight-line miles from the Expo Center, measured from the venue's OpenStreetMap node.
Every other card in the 19-card Dayuse Portland set sits 5.9 miles out or further. The nearest of them is Embassy Suites by Hilton Portland Downtown at 319 SW Pine Street, 5.9 miles from the venue.
Three Windows, One Afternoon
The Jantzen Beach Express card sells three windows on the same read: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. The 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. window covers the event end to end and leaves two hours for a shower and the drive to the MAX stop.
The 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. window closes an hour before the cookoff ends. The 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. window opens two hours after it ends. A visitor who needs the room from 8 a.m. takes that first window and reaches Hall D at noon.
Five Hotels Inside a Mile
Five further properties sit within 0.84 straight-line miles of the venue, measured from the same node on the same read: Fairfield Inn and Suites at 1200 North Anchor Way at 0.46 miles, Courtyard at 1231 North Anchor Way at 0.49, Residence Inn at 1250 North Anchor Way at 0.44, Oxford Suites at 12226 North Jantzen Drive at 0.74 and Holiday Inn Portland Columbia Riverfront at 909 North Hayden Island Drive at 0.84.
None of the five carries a day rate on the Dayuse read. hotelslots.org lists 278 hotels in Portland. Of the six properties named here, the Jantzen Beach Express is the one with a published day price.
Food, Wheelchairs and the Hall
Levy runs the food outlets. Truss and Table in Hall D1 sells sandwiches, hot dogs, pretzels, fries, beer and wine. Foundry Market in Hall D2 sells grab-and-go salads, sandwiches and snack boxes. Ironworks Kitchen in Hall E1 sells pizza. Green Heron Market in Hall E2 sells salads and artisan sandwiches. Pop-up carts carry tacos, gyros, pulled pork and a baked potato bar. The venue states that the Hall D and Hall E locations sit under renovation through 2026 and that food hours vary by event.
Four complimentary manual wheelchairs sit at the Med Tech office in the Hall D or Hall E lobby, first come and first served. All-user restrooms are in the lobbies of Halls A, D and E. Curbside drop-off points sit in front of each building, and Halls A and E carry a second drop-off outside the parking lot.
The MAX and the Parking Line
The TriMet MAX Yellow Line stops at the Expo Center station, a short walk from the venue entrance. Bike racks sit next to the MAX stop and outside Halls D and E. The venue normally charges $15 per car per entry and states that prices vary at special events. The Burn Center covers parking for this date.
hotelslots.org books day rooms in four slots: morning, afternoon, evening and overnight. The site lists 103,857 hotels across 46 states, quotes 30 to 75 percent below nightly rates and charges $0 in booking fees. Rates on the Dayuse page move through the day, so re-read the card on the morning of the booking. The 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. window costs $96, and the cookoff takes three of those seven hours.
