Five Days and One Hotel Block

AGU26 runs Monday 7 December to Friday 11 December 2026 at the George R. Moscone Convention Center, 747 Howard St, San Francisco. AGU places some events and sessions at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, 780 Mission St, and at InterContinental San Francisco, 888 Howard St.

AGU publishes two scale figures for the week. The meeting page reads "25,000+ attendees from 100+ countries." The press office release reads "More than 24,000 attendees will present research."

AGU publishes the housing block as a numbered hotel map. The map keys 44 properties. Bookings close 19 November, and AGU adds that the block may fill before that date.

Overflow Meeting Space Is a Priced Product

AGU does not hand overflow meetings a free table. Its ancillary meetings policy for event space requests carries a published rate card: $400 per meeting, per day, for meetings under 50 people, and $500 per meeting, per day, for 50 people or more. Payment is required at submission. The fee covers neither audio-visual nor catering.

The document sets the clock. All ancillary meeting requests had to be submitted by 17:00 EST Monday 5 October 2026. The fee rises by $200 per request, per event, per day for anything submitted on or after Tuesday 6 October 2026. Both dates sit in the past.

Four further lines matter to an operator. Catering, audio-visual and technology service, equipment service, music licensing and labour are the requestor's cost. The host hotels will not reserve meeting rooms or function space during the meeting dates without prior AGU approval. AGU accepts no financial responsibility for an ancillary meeting. A listing in the official AGU26 online program costs a further $500.

Two Workspaces AGU Leaves Open

The Education Section newsletter states that "Space will be dedicated in Moscone West, Level 2" for colleagues to network and hold informal meetings. Access follows section membership.

The press room is the second. Registered press receive a room with dedicated Wi-Fi, working and discussion space, power outlets, refreshments and "smaller quiet rooms for conducting interviews". Its hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Thursday. Friday hours are 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PT. Media registrants receive access to all scientific sessions and the press room at no charge.

Admission is credentialed. Walk-in press registration is not available on site, and press registration stays open until the conference ends on Friday 11 December. A press event schedule arrives in November. Press conferences run hybrid and recorded, and no part of the 2026 scientific program will be livestreamed.

Four Gaps in the Meeting Day

The press room is shut before 7:30 a.m., so a reporter filing a pre-conference brief at 6 a.m. Pacific has no door to close. A late press conference or a cross-time-zone analyst call outlives the 5:30 p.m. close from Monday to Thursday. Friday is the thinnest day, because the press room closes at noon on 11 December. The press room's shared discussion space also works poorly for a recorded interview.

Mapping the Day-Use Slots to the Clock

hotelSlots sells the day in four windows: Morning 6AM-12PM, Afternoon 12PM-6PM, Evening 6PM-12AM and Overnight 12AM-6AM. The platform invites a booker to reserve one slot or combine several for full-day coverage. It describes a day-use room as a room held for daytime hours, typically six to eight hours, without an overnight stay.

The Morning slot opens ninety minutes before the press room and closes at noon, so it fits a pre-conference call. The Afternoon slot 12PM-6PM covers the 5:30 p.m. press-room close. The Evening slot 6PM-12AM takes a post-session debrief. On Friday the Morning slot ends as the press room closes at noon, and the Afternoon slot carries the wrap and the airport run.

What a Day Room Costs in the Same City

Nine San Francisco day rates read on 14 October 2026 run from $85 to $159, against a published city average of $119.61. Hotel Bijou at $85, The Mosser Hotel at $91, Hotel Caza at $107, the Hilton San Francisco Financial District at $116, Axiom Hotel at $122, Hotel Zeppelin at $138, Hotel Zelos at $144, Hotel Zetta at $152 and Taj Campton Place at $159.

Each card sells windows narrower than the platform's four slots. Axiom sells 8am-2pm, 10am-4pm and 3pm-9pm. Hotel Zelos sells five, from 8am-3pm to 3pm-11pm. The Hilton Financial District sells one, 10am-4pm.

Two platform bands frame the price: 30-75% less than the nightly rate on the home page, and 40-60% less than overnight on the day-use page. The platform covers 46 states, California among them. It lists Florida, Hawaii, Iowa and Washington as the four states where state travel laws restrict day-use bookings. Day rates and windows move, so check both on the day of booking.
