What The Wharf publishes for December 5

The 34th Annual Holiday Boat Parade and Party at The Wharf takes place Saturday, December 5, 2026. The Wharf's events calendar lists the event as 5pm to 8pm at District Pier. The parade page states that more than 60 decorated boats move along the Washington Channel. Spectators pay nothing and need no ticket, on the piers or along Wharf Street.

The parade page closes the night with fireworks fired from a barge in the Washington Channel around 8pm. The published window ends in the same hour. The site publishes no start time for the boats themselves, so read 5pm as the hour the programme opens.

The day slot that fits a working afternoon

hotelSlots sells four slots: Morning 6am-12pm, Afternoon 12pm-6pm, Evening 6pm-12am, Overnight 12am-6am. The Afternoon slot is the one a remote worker wants on December 5. It starts after the morning calls and ends as the parade opens.

The platform advertises 103,857+ hotels across 46 U.S. states and rates 30-75 percent below the nightly figure at the same property. The site states no booking fees. Day-use cards on the open market carry their own booking fee, between $0 and $9 on the properties read for this piece.

Where the five-minute walk lands

The Wharf gives one transit instruction: ride Metro to Waterfront Station and walk five minutes. A base that satisfies that rule sits inside the neighbourhood.

The Wharf lists four hotels on its own hotels page. They are Pendry Washington DC - The Wharf, Canopy by Hilton Washington DC The Wharf, Hyatt House Washington DC/The Wharf, and InterContinental Washington D.C. - The Wharf. All four sell rooms by the night.

On a 23 October 2026 read of dayuse.com/l/hourly-hotels-washington, 20 properties carried a day rate and seven of them sat in the District. None of the four Wharf hotels appeared in that set. The nearest priced DC day slot to a 760 Maine Ave SW pin measured 1.51 straight-line miles: Sofitel Washington DC Lafayette Square at $169 for 9am-6pm.

The rest of the DC set, in order of distance from that pin: AC Hotel Washington DC Convention Center, $104, 1.62 miles, with 8am-2pm, 10am-5pm and 1pm-7pm windows; Le Meridien Washington DC The Madison, $140, 1.71 miles; The Capital Hilton, $116, 1.75 miles; Viceroy Washington DC, $144, 2.02 miles; The Beacon Hotel, $96, 2.04 miles; Melrose Georgetown Hotel, $111, 2.25 miles. The seven DC cards averaged $125.71. The full 20-card set ran $75 to $169 with a $105.90 mean.

That is the shape of the purchase. Hours bought on the day-use market reach the District and stop short of The Wharf. The five-minute walk is an overnight booking at one of the four Wharf hotels. A reader who wants to pay for an afternoon keeps the money and adds a ride.

The block between meetings

The Wharf Shuttle is free and open to the public. It runs a roundtrip route through 800 Maine Ave SW near CVS, 680 Maine Ave SW near 7th Street Park, SW Duck Pond on 6th St SW at K St SW, L'Enfant Plaza Metro and VRE on 7th St at Maryland Ave SW, the National Mall on Independence Ave at 7th St SW, and L'Enfant Plaza Parking on 10th St SW. Published hours are Monday to Friday 7am-7pm, with Saturday 12pm-6pm listed for April 1 to October 31. Event-day service is posted separately on that page. The shuttle is not wheelchair accessible.

The Wharf Ice Rink sits at 970 Wharf Street SW on Transit Pier, outside The Anthem. It opens for the season in December and runs through February. The rink takes no cash, sells admission first come first served, and stops selling 15 minutes before it closes. Adult, youth and senior prices for 2026-2027 read "coming soon" on the rink page, and rental details carry the same line. Skates run from a child size 9 to a size 15 hockey skate, whole sizes only.

The 45-foot nautical-inspired tree stands on District Pier. Santa takes photos in The Grove, the life-sized Joy sign stands in District Square, and the Jack Daniel's Barrel Tree sits in Blair Circle. Live music and DJs play on all stages.

What to leave in the room

Chairs and coolers are not permitted at The Wharf at any time. Drinking outdoors is against District law outside licensed areas, and no outside alcohol comes in. Public restrooms sit at the Fish Market, Transit Pier, 800 Water Street, the Oculus and The Terrace. Cameras are allowed for personal use with a lens no longer than six inches. Tripods, monopods and selfie sticks stay home.

Three underground garages at The Wharf run around the clock and fill fast on event days. Off-site options on the Wharf parking map are Ace Parking at L'Enfant Plaza, 420 10th St SW; L'Enfant East Parking Garage, 840 D St SW; and the 1100 4th St SW garage.

Booking it

Set the slot, then the ride. The Afternoon window at AC Hotel Washington DC Convention Center opens at 10am or 1pm depending on the slot chosen, costs $104 all-in on the 23 October read, and finishes at 5pm or 7pm. The parade window opens at 5pm. A reader who takes the 1pm-7pm slot spends the afternoon working and reaches the piers before the fireworks.

Rates and windows move. Re-read the card on the booking day, confirm the amenities at that property, and check the Wharf event page for weather updates. The Wharf states it will post adjustments there and on its social channels if conditions change.
