Six games, two days, and a Saturday with nothing on the floor

The Shriners Children's Charleston Classic runs November 20 and 22 at TD Arena, 301 Meeting Street. The bracket lists six standalone games across those two days. Friday tips at 12:30, 3:00 and 5:30 p.m. Sunday tips at 1:00, 3:30 and 6:00 p.m. Saturday, November 21, carries no games at all.

The 2026 edition is the 18th, and the organiser calls the Charleston Classic the longest-running college basketball multi-team event in South Carolina. Six programs make the field: Dayton, Minnesota, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Utah and Virginia Tech. The ticketing page pairs them into the same two games on both days, so a fan following one team has one Friday ticket to buy and one Sunday ticket to buy.

That shape is the whole day-use case. The arena sits still for a full day in the middle of a three-day trip, and each playing day holds two-and-a-half-hour breaks between tip-offs.

What the three Friday tip-offs leave

Friday begins at 12:30 with Oklahoma State against Minnesota. Northwestern meets Virginia Tech at 3:00, and Dayton meets Utah at 5:30. The gaps between those tip-offs run two and a half hours. Tickets are sold per game, so a fan attending all three holds three separate admissions and leaves the building between each one.

Sunday compresses differently. The first game tips at 1:00, the second at 3:30 and the third at 6:00. A guest who arrives for the opener and stays to the close of the last game sits in the arena across an afternoon and an evening.

The Charleston Classic FAQ puts the average November high at 70 degrees, so the street between games is not a shelter. The city garages charge by the hour or by the entry.

Doors, bags and what the ticket does not cover

The organiser answers the door question with a rule and a caveat. Doors typically open one hour before each session, and exact times are posted closer to the event. Treat 11:30 a.m. Friday as the estimate for the 12:30 opener and confirm it in tournament week.

A clear bag policy applies, set by the College of Charleston Department of Public Safety. Children aged 3 and under do not need a ticket if they sit on a lap. TD Arena holds 5,100 and opened in 2008 with the first Charleston Classic.

Parking is entirely public. The organiser states there are no reserved lots or garages, names Marion Square/Francis Marion, Saint Phillip and George Street as the closest, and points to Majestic and the Visitors Center for the discounted late-afternoon and evening rate. Most city garages run about $2 an hour, or a flat $5 to $7 when entered late in the afternoon.

The Charleston room market does not sit on the peninsula

hotelSlots lists 253 Charleston properties in its directory. The first page of 24 includes peninsula addresses, among them 199 Church Street, 177 Church Street and 144 Bee Street, and publishes no rate against any of them. Those listings are request-based.

The priced layer is thinner. A read of the Dayuse Charleston page on 25 October 2026 returned seven cards, from $76 to $135.75 for the day, median $96, with a booking fee of $6 or $9 on top. None of the seven sits on the peninsula. The closest, Best Western Patriots Point, is 2.50 straight-line miles from TD Arena, which means a crossing of the Ravenel bridge on US 17 in both directions.

The rest sit out along the airport and North Charleston corridor. Comfort Inn & Suites Charleston Airport measures 7.29 straight-line miles from the arena, Embassy Suites 7.47, Quality Inn Coliseum 7.63, Comfort Inn Northwoods 12.18, StayAPT 15.39 and Econo Lodge Goose Creek 16.47. Every figure is straight-line from the arena pin, not a driving distance.

Which windows fit which session

One of the seven covers the whole Friday court block inside a single window. Quality Inn Coliseum North Charleston lists a 10:00 to 18:00 slot from $81. That window opens before the 12:30 tip and runs past the 5:30 tip. The same card carries an 8:00 to 14:00 slot for a guest who wants the opener and the first break.

Three cards reach 23:00, which covers the back end of a playing day. Quality Inn Coliseum lists 16:00 to 23:00 from $81, Best Western Patriots Point lists 17:00 to 23:00 from $85, and Econo Lodge Goose Creek lists 17:00 to 23:00 from $76. The Best Western and Econo Lodge windows open 30 minutes before the 5:30 tip.

The other four stop at or before 18:00. Embassy Suites runs 9:00 to 17:00, both Comfort Inns carry 10:00 to 17:00, and StayAPT carries 10:00 to 18:00. Each opens before the 12:30 game.

For Sunday, the 10:00 to 18:00 slot covers the 1:00 and 3:30 games and ends before the 6:00 game. A guest who wants all three books an evening window.

Using the empty Saturday

November 21 has no games. For a team's travelling party, a broadcast crew or a beat writer, that is a working day with no venue obligation and no arena workspace.

hotelSlots describes its work product as a quiet professional space with high-speed Wi-Fi, a desk and ergonomic seating, privacy for calls, and access to a gym and coffee between calls. A day room on the Saturday turns that into an office for a few hours.

Four slots are bookable, named morning, afternoon, evening and overnight, and a guest can combine more than one for longer coverage. hotelSlots publishes its day rates as typically 30 to 75 percent below the nightly rate at the same hotels, and its booking as free to use.

The matchup grid over the FAQ

The FAQ still describes an eight-team tournament with eight games over a two-day period. The 2026 matchup grid on the home page and the ticketing page both name six programs across six games. The grid is the current document.

There is no all-event pass. A fan attending Friday and Sunday buys two tickets, one per game. A day room sits outside that arithmetic, and one window across the middle of the day stops a guest paying for parking twice.
